Home Secretary and West Midlands Mayor visit the new development site owner Fortel at M6 junction 10.

Owner of Fortel ,Mr. Surinder Nijjer was alongside the Home Secretary and West Midlands Mayors visit to the development site which will host new state of the art offices and training academy.

Amidst the busiest political weeks, Fortel were delighted to host Home Secretary, Priti Patel, and Mayor of the West Midlands, Andy Street, at the Darlaston Enterprise Zone site to showcase the group’s new HQ and Training Academy under construction aiming to drive down local unemployment.

Along with other guests, business owner and dignitaries, the Home Secretary was accompanied around the site by Directors and delegates from the West Midlands Training Academy. Discussing local employment issues, the new Fortel facilities are a key enabler for our plans to provide inclusive opportunities for upskilling, training and placing people into work from the local community and beyond.

The new HQ will enable Fortel Group to expand its operations across hundreds of major infrastructure projects in the UK, but more critically doing so through addressing skills shortages and ensuring opportunities are socially all-encompassing.

Working in conjunction with The Skills Centre and West Midlands Combined Authority with the support of Walsall Council, Fortel has started to deliver training.The academy vision is to reduce youth unemployment, upskilling candidates through the provision of classroom and on-site practical learning and ultimately placing them into employment in the construction and other aligned industrial sectors.

The need for greater diversity, including female representation, in the construction industry is well documented.

Anna represents a real success story and hopes that she can set an example for others.

Anna became a mother in 2020 and has returned to the job she loves with a retained focus on improvement and professional development.

Shinda Nijjer founded Fortel in 1998 after more than 20 years in the construction industry, where he originally started out as a labourer. As the then owner and Chief Executive of the company, he led its early growth and development. He became Chairman in 2009 and now divides his time between overseeing the business and running a Corporate Social Responsibility programme in the UK and India. This was the starting point of the company.

In the year 2012, John joined Fortel as the vice-chairman of the company.  He was experienced in structural engineering and due to this; he brought about so many better changes in Fortel with that knowledge. Also, his strategic sense was very strong, so that also helped the company to maintain its growth ace during his time in the company. Also, he started so many public partnerships that lead the company in a new direction here the excelling options were too many and that is what the company is benefiting from to date.

Sat Nijjer joined the team in 2005 as operations director. His education includes a BSc in Computer Science and a career in investment banking with the US company, Bear Stearns. Since he was a significant shareholder in Fortel, he later became chief executive in 2012.

The current owner of Fortel is Sat Nijjer and he is doing such an amazing job for the company. Right now, no one could have been a better option than him because after getting almost 15 years of experience in the field of construction from various companies, he knows everything about them. Fortel Sat Nijjer announces National Apprenticeship Week 2021

It’s National Apprenticeship Week and this year’s theme is ‘Build The Future’.

At Fortel, we know how positive the impact of apprenticeships can be on local communities, businesses and regional economies. Therefore, we are making a pledge to continue actively creating opportunities to help boost the community and motivate young people to kick start their careers in construction and engineering.

It’s important to also take this opportunity to applaud the resilience of all apprentices and employers during such unprecedented times. 

We believe that education is vital and should be easily accessible all over the world, so our apprenticeships, placements and graduate schemes will be open internationally, welcoming people from across the globe to apply.

One of our many successful former apprentices, Maisy Knox, joined Fortel straight from school and has been thriving ever since. 

Maisy joined Fortel after making a firm decision that her future lay in practical working experience rather than Further Education.

It was a decision she felt 100% confidence in and she chose Fortel over other offers in order to pursue what she saw as an interesting and unique career in the Construction industry.

She has been flourishing in the Fortel working environment, taking on increased responsibility at every opportunity and succeeding in new challenges.

Maisy says: “Going straight into work has given me a head-start, I have structure and a purpose to my life.

“Fortel have given me so much support and encouragement, I feel like I am growing everyday and learning more about the construction industry.

“As an apprentice and moving into a full-time employee, it has been particularly encouraging to have the opportunity to get help from the senior management team when I need it.” 

Maisy is one of many successful former apprentices here at Fortel, and we currently have 56 apprentices across our teams today.

Our aim is to continue providing a catalogue of training schemes and employability opportunities for each recruit.
